About the Item

This painting is inspired by a residency in Cape Cornwall. My work uses the notion of alchemy, a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination, in order to respond visually to my environment and life experiences. My paintings are concerned with translating the power of my surroundings through a transmutation of material through process. Empowered by the temporal nature of the raw material terrain, the paintings evolve continuously – my use of rusting metal powders allows my paintings to mirror the ebb and flow of the dynamic landscape. My paintings evolve and shift as I have limited control over the chemical reaction that occurs. The changes are subtle, not monumental but my reaction to them in paint is what determines the outcome. Inspired by a residency in Cape Cornwall this painting is made using acrylic and mixed media including rusted metal powders and pigment
