Julia Contacessi
"Edge of Forever, " Abstract Painting

2016

About the Item

This large abstract statement painting by Julia Contacessi is made with acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas. It features a cool blue and warm violet palette, and is fluid in composition, taking breaks in intensity of color to allow for that feeling of slow, un-rushed movement. This the canvas has clean, white edges and ships wired and ready to hang. It is wired to hang vertically or horizontally, depending on preference. It is signed and dated on the back of the canvas. In 2000, Julia earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute in New York City. Over the years, her eye for composition coupled with her love of painting, design and photography has earned Julia numerous awards in such publications as Photographer's Forum and Creativity along with inclusion into the Yale Robert B. Haas Family Arts Library Special Collections(ALSC) in New Haven, CT. Julia never strayed far from texture, paint and the mixing and layering of mediums, which are important components to Julia's work. In fact, Julia's most recent abstracts focus on deconstructing painted color palette studies through isolated images, and then rebuilding those studies with new form and composition. Julia lives in Norwalk, Connecticut with her husband and son. She spends most weekends tackling new projects and getting into all sorts of adventures with her little guy, Neo. She loves painting & photography, the occasional 5 mile run and feisty discussions across the family dinner table on Sunday evenings. About her work, Julia says, "When you layer on the paint just right, so that it dances across a wash of another color, a new level of dimension is created. Combine that dimension with the exploration of color and I’ve just begun to captured something meaningful. My style is single-minded and focused on the simplicity of beauty in the moment. My goal is to drown out the noise and clutter to find a sense of calm through light. The end result is clean, fresh and modern."

  • Urban Abstraction (ripped off posters) Italian Expressionist Painting on Canvas
    By Andrea Spinelli
    Located in Firenze, IT
The present work of art titled "Urban Abstraction (ripped off posters)" is part of a series of paintings that the artist composed in the 1980s and 1990s inspired by the observation of the urban reality of those years. The artist take the cue from his walks in Florence, both in the center and in the suburbs, and by the observation of billboards and posters scattered throughout the city. The mass of information, colors, messages and words were carried on the canvas with acrylic colors, ideally reconstructing the tears and overlaps of all the information and advertising contained on these huge sheets of paper that invade our cities. The geometric lines are overlaid with jagged lines, overlaps and color dripping and also the choice in the color palette, with different shades of white, gray, rose, orange red and blue helps in rendering the result of the tears and ripped paper. The result is a beautiful multicolored modern abstract canvas, both aesthetically and ethically, with many rich layers of color, texture and expression in which the artist leaves his own message. The painting is housed in a simple modern white lacquer wood frame. Andrea Spinelli...
