About the Item

Jung Han Kim’s paintings are spontaneous images depicting everyday life and scenery in the San Francisco bay area. His creative use of color, shadowing and impasto create a three dimensional scene into which the viewer can feel apart of. From figurative to urban city scenes to California landscapes, Kim captures the moment in a fresh combination of representational and impressionistic styles. Kim was educated in Seoul, South Korea where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Fine Arts Cum Laude at Seoul and Sogang Universities. He continued his education at The Academy of Art University in San Francisco where he earned his second Masters degree. Kim has had countless solo and group shows and has won numerous awards including The Salon International 2006 Award for the International Museum of Contemporary Masters. He was also awarded the grand prize for the International Artist Magazine challenge. Other achievements include being published in various magazines including International Artist Magazine as a grand prize winner in the “people subjects” category. Most recently Kim was chosen for the “50th International Open exhibition, Bold Expressions”, and the “Unfinished Works” exhibition at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art. “My paintings come from a point after photo realism and minimalism, for I am drawn to the intensity of photorealism and the detachment of minimalism. My subjects are often banal and trite as is my life and are scenes of my life. With my paintings and through the process of making them, I aim to study the relationship between the scene and me which is the phenomenon only I can perceive as the scenes constantly change, and so do I”.
