About the Item

Savannah’s katherine sandoz paints soft, luminous color field style paintings, of the Georgia landscape. She examines everyday formations and offers work - in sizes varying from 24’ to 12 x 12” - that celebrates what is precious and unique. Analyzing and reframing small moments and neglected details of the day, sandoz covers large areas of her surfaces with thinned and fluid paint in loose abstractions, allowing the viewer to pay attention to what are essentially the backdrops of our everyday life – the natural landscape. A clever environmentalist, she makes a practice of using native, recycled, repurposed and up-cycled materials and playfully bonds them with conceptual twists and layered narratives. katherine sandoz (b.1969, Wonalancet, NH) has worked with many of the fashion industry’s top names and this year created 50 illustrations of industry models and fashionistas for a London-based retailer (publication forthcoming). She also handled the formarina backdrop and painted a large-scale biographical work for Pierre Cardin. She has held art/drawing/painting workshops in the South of France for visitors coming from Paris Fashion Week and is collected by many notable names including Walter O. Evans, Sir David Tang, Hamish Bowles and Glenn Close. Sandoz has exhibited extensively throughout the Southeast, particularly in Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia, as well as in Milan, Italy and multiple locations in France. She earned a BA in French and International Relations from Mount Holyoke College in 1991, then MFAs from Savannah College of Art & Design in Illustration in 1997 and Painting in 2005. From 1987-1997, she served as SGT/E-5 in the US Army Reserves. Today, Sandoz resides in Savannah, Georgia.
