About

Kyle Brooks, also known as BlackCatTips, is an expressive street folk artist from "way down in the American South." As a painter and muralist, a poet and a teller of tales; Brooks has become known for his street poems, whimsical roadside art installations, and bold colorful murals. With his brush, bright colors, and found materials, he intends to paint the world "Happy." In "Jacques," we see the explorer Jacques Cousteau's portrait in a roundel floating in a sea of colorful cone shaped buoys. Cousteau's signature red knitted hat has grown blue lidded eyes with bundles of branching coral breaking through the roundel into the upper portion of the composition. This space is dotted with bubble totems, bright eyes, and leering faces. A bold red horizon line separates this space from the buoys, which lead you to the foreground of larger blue mountain shapes housing wide-eyed coral creatures, that seem electrified by the red, blue, white, yellow, and black concentric circles dotting their appendages.
