About the Item

Abstract Interior By Laure Noetzlin-Azam (French, 1929–2024) Pupil of André Lhote Gouache and pencil on artist paper, unframed Artist paper: 21.75 × 15 inches Provenance: from the artist’s estate, Paris Condition: Overall good condition with age-related wear. Please refer to the photographs for further details. A striking French Modernist composition by Laure Noetzlin-Azam, combining elements of an interior with a highly abstracted Cubist arrangement of forms. The work is dominated by a particularly appealing palette of turquoise, emerald green, pale blue and soft pink, interspersed with areas of exposed paper and underlying pencil drawing. Geometric shapes and overlapping planes give the composition a distinctly Cubist character, reflecting the influence of Noetzlin-Azam’s teacher André Lhote. A bold and highly decorative example of the artist’s more abstract Modernist work, with excellent provenance from her estate in Paris.
