Laurie Barmore
The Stories that Create Us #10, 2021 Mixed Media Painting - Magenta Yellow Black

2021

About the Item

In this work by Laurie Barmore, the artist's hand is exceedingly present. Using strong strokes of black and magenta creates its own essences of form atop washes of whites and pale pinks. Spilling between and binding fore and background, the artist creates various line qualities through scratching back into the face of the painting itself. Together, the use of hand and manipulation of line captures electric energy and quality of movement in the multidirectional spaces it creates. Also incorporating collaged journal pages, asemic writing on vellum or rice paper, and cutout script shapes these works marry personal text with visual expression. This piece is well suited for any bright room on its own or juxtaposed within a space of maximal design. From the artist: “This series of mixed media paintings was created around the premise that our stories (the personal experiences, relationships, challenges, failures, successes) and the emotions tied to them are instrumental in our growth as humans. They change us in incremental non-linear ways on our journey towards our best selves. Each painting is an invitation to explore your own past stories and their influence on you today, and to celebrate the good, the challenging, and even what you’ve overcome along the way." We will ship this via standard parcel boxed with internal support to maintain the integrity of the piece. The work will be fully insured during shipping. If you prefer a different shipping method, inquire, and we are happy to accommodate your requests. Our first priorities are our collectors' satisfaction and the artwork's safety in transit. Handling time will be 2-3 business days, and shipping will be 2-5 business days from the date of order confirmation.

  • Sublime 1179
    By Tae Ho Kang
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
Inspired by the artists of the Modern Art era, including Post-Impressionist Paul Cezanne, Kang visualizes the modern-day search for identity in an age where information and images permeate every aspect of contemporary life. His architectural urban scenes are flattened, with everything pressed against the surface of the artwork. At times, multiple views of the same houses are visible, trees and bushes are vaguely alluded to, and the color palette finds a hectic balance. Just as a city operates in a balance of chaos and the sublime, so do the artworks of Kang. The Sublime is a euphoria that affects the deep recesses of consciousness. As is the experience of the sublime, Kang's work is largely abstract. This colorful horizontal artwork is 42 inches high by 30 inches wide. The sides of this textured, original mixed-media artwork are finished as a continuation of the front and it does not require framing. It is hand-signed and dated by the artist on the front and back. It is wired and ready to hang. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable U.S. and worldwide shipping. Provenance: Artspace Warehouse. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Tae Ho Kang was born in Seoul, Korea in 1945. He studied at the College of Arts of Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea. He later moved to California to study Fine Art at California State University, where he graduated in 1980. Since then, his artworks have focused on the never-ending quest for home and belonging in a dense urban landscape. About his mixed media artworks, he remarks: “One day, when I was traveling, I was impressed by the beautiful scenery of the city under the sky, with many straight lines, curved lines, and harmonies of different colors, which seemed to be a magnificent orchestral performance. The beauty of this urban landscape gave me a deep impression and great change began to take place in my work. I wanted to be a molecule in this huge space. I have to find a house of my heart to be a molecule. Where is the house I live in? What is my identity? This question has begun to arise. I am on a long journey to find my own house.” His mixed media collage artworks have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions as well as international art fairs throughout the US and in Korea. Kang's work has also been featured in Television and Film productions, including Criminal Minds, NCIS Los Angeles, Unforgettable, The Mindy Project, The Great Indoors, and American Housewife. His artworks have been exhibited and acquired by private collectors around the world. By Peter Kuttner
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
The organic aesthetic and textures of Peter Kuttner’s original boho minimalist artworks are the result of patient layering and original uses of media. Through a combination of paint and collage, Kuttner is able to find personal expression in the clear colors and contrasting soft textures he creates. With a focus on subtle textures, Kuttner separately creates the colorful detailed top layers of each artwork in a separate process. Each of these applied mini paintings within the larger composition is a unique cutout of paint created with a flow of colors on an intermediary glass surface. This one-of-a-kind mixed media painting measures 16 inches square. It is wired and ready to hang. It is signed by the artist on the front and back. It does not require framing. Convenient local Los Angeles area shipping. Affordable Continental U.S. and International shipping also available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Kuttner uses familiar yet abstract details to suspend the viewer in contemplation of the universality of imagery. Using negative shapes, repetition, and emphasizing spatial relationships, he carefully considers scale and balance. Works in this series are meant to be contemporary, clean, sophisticated, colorful, uplifting, soothing, and filled with positive vibrations. Kuttner’s artworks have been featured in Architectural Digest Magazine as well as in popular films and television shows including Two and a Half Men, Californication, and Nashville.
