Biography Maestro Lilly Sotirova A Bulgarian artist born in 1987, She began her studies in art at the School of Fine Arts in Sofia. Her interest in fashion encouraged her to continue in this path and she joined a front line Art School of Sofia where she specialized in fashion trends and management. After crossing the Atlantic, she continued her course, but in the United States where she currently lives, in the fashion and design institute of art. Lilly Sotirova is extremely open minded while exchanging with others. Nourished by the history of art, she is particularly affected by the work and personality of Salvador Dalí or Klimt, she sometimes refers to them in her paintings. We can very quickly perceive the spiritual dimension in her work, including meaningful symbols such as the eye. This means both divine and mystery, it reminds us of Dali's subconscious eye. The notion of balance or imbalance also counterbalance the subject of her painting, mostly colorful abstracts. Sensitivity is given a log of importance. Lilly Sotirova paints with a lot of feeling. She has a passion for questions pertaining to energies in the universe and their interaction, painting is a medium which allows her to experiment and exploit these questions. She preaches in the name of the present moment and the importance of living the present, to the fullest. Painting and poetry make up her sensitive and out of sync world, where kindness of humanity is the pillar. This accentuated taste for spirituality in art is present due to the artist's past, as she survived a car accident. The artist did two personal exhibitions in Bulgaria in 2012 and 2013 and also exhibited with other artists at the European Information Center of Sofia on the theme " Celebrate the European citizen" where Lilly Sotirova was the youngest artist guest. Today, her work is mainly at the heart of collections in Bulgaria, Holland and U.S.A now.

  • Stand By
    By Gay Summer Rick
    Located in Santa Monica, CA
Depicts the terminal view from LAX. Sparsely populated though replete with objects and evidence of the built environment, Gay Summer Rick creates iconic urban and coastal land and cityscape paintings that evoke emotion and a sense of place. She creates scenes that are at once dreamlike and familiar. You may have been there; you are there. Revealing an unexpected beauty in commonplace elements within the urban landscape, Gay Summer’s style is a melding of impressionism and color-field painting describing the quiet vibration of life where cities meet the sea. Applying oil paint to canvas using only palette knives, Gay Summer Rick creates images through a series of interacting, melded layers. The paint is treated architectonically; it is engineered, built into layers, carved, scraped, accumulated, and almost sculpted, but never removed, never discarded. In part to avoid material waste and the use of toxic solvents for reasons of environmentalism, she finds this almost mnemonic accrual of paint a reflection of her experiences in the places she depicts. Growing up in New York surrounded by artists, Gay Summer Rick began her arts education early in life. She went on to formally study art and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in New York at the School of Art and Design, Alfred University, where she drew, painted and sculpted images on clay forms and vessels. After receiving a Masters degree in Business Administration, she continued her art training in Los Angeles in painting, which became the primary focus of her art practice. A resident of Southern California for over 25 years, the artist maintains her studio in Malibu. Gay Summer Rick regularly exhibits in California and Hawaii, and has shown in New York, Europe, and Japan. Her paintings have been featured in solo gallery exhibitions and museum group exhibitions including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Rental & Sales Gallery; and in international and national group exhibitions where she has received numerous awards and honors. She is a member of Oil Painters of America, California Art Club, Malibu Art...

  • Lake (wild)
    By Darlene Cole
    Located in Montreal, Quebec
Childhood, a reoccurring theme in Darlene Cole’s work, is represented by prepubescent girls and boys, engaged in some type of action. Without adult supervision, these activities confer on Cole’s children an adult-like aura, empowering them. The artist cites Neil Postman’s 1982 book about the decline in innocence in American culture The Disappearance of Childhood as a text that informs her work. In it, Postman argues that communications technology, such as the invention of the television and later, the Internet, contributed to children losing their innocence, thus transforming them into young adults. A source of inspiration for Cole are the works of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, a group of English painters, poets and critics, founded in 1848. They studied nature attentively, employed vivid colours and depicted unconventional-looking women. Just like in Pre-Raphaelite works, the girls in Cole’s paintings embody enigma, distance, and beauty. The past, in general, is a great source of inspiration for the artist. Cole’s cottage, or ‘artist’s retreat’ as she calls it, was built at the beginning of the 20th century. Since she kept all the original furniture and linens intact, the cottage, on the side of a lake, seems to belong to the past. Nature, another omnipresent theme in Cole’s work, is in many works represented by flowers, such as pink David Austin roses...
