Richard J. Watson is an icon in the Philadelphia art world. Much of his work relates to his experiences as a Black African American man. He is a graduate of Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1968), has taught at his alma mater, and has served in the Exhibitions Department at the African American Museum in Philadelphia since the 1980s. He has been exhibiting his work for decades, and has an extensive bibliography. Born in Guangzhou, China, Lui participated in the Chinese Cultural Revolution as a member of the Red Guard but escaped to Hong Kong in 1970. Frank Diaz Escalet is a Puerto Rican artist born in 1930 in Ponce. Before embarking on an art career in the New York art scene he had served in the US Air Force and had also had a successful custom leather crafting career producing leather clothing for the Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, and other rock groups, he was also commissioned by Pablo Casals to make his cello case and by the Museum of Modern Art to make covers for their stone-slab seats in their sculpture garden.
Frank's style of painting is primitive and is based on impressionistic folk art. Leather, wood, paper, metal, oil, acrylic, water colors and fabric are his mediums of choice.
His works are classified into:
