This abstract work presents various shades of light and dark. I achieved layers with the flat surfaces and sharp edges of my palette knives. Every painting has a Voice, inspired by the music played during creation. The Voice of this piece is Death Cab for Cutie's Narrow Stairs '08. The work is on 20;x30; 300 lb cold-press Fabriano paper. Two edges are deckled and two edges are straight, with a 2 3/8; border for easy framing. The actual painting measures 17;x25;.
About the Artist
As a child in the 1950s, Patricia Oblack sat in front of the television and learned to draw with Jon Gnagy’s New Television Art Instruction Book. The exercise led to a love of art, and in 1962 she begged her mother to purchase lessons from Art Instruction, Inc. in Minneapolis. Within a few weeks, a box arrived with art supplies, including her first palette knife. Patricia finished every lesson, and was in good company–another student of the school was renowned Peanuts cartoonist Charles M. Schulz. From that humble beginning, Patricia became a lifelong artist, currently creating dark, earthy abstracts, which she paints with the same palette knife from childhood.

The inspiration for each and every painting is brought about through music ; every piece has a ;Voice; listed on the back which indicates the music involved in the process. When you receive the painting, read that information, purchase or obtain the music from a library etc. , listen to the music ; see what it inspires in yourself. Abstract is always open to the interpretations of the viewer. My work is acrylic with palette knife, there is a clear low sheen varnish on the front as well as the edges. Each piece is wired ; ready to install. Brace/frame on the back is 2; wide ; made of MDF. The masonite is cradled by way of this frame, edge painted black, face is varnished with low-sheen polyurethane. Diptych composed of two panels.About the Artist
