"Linling Lu is best known for her hard-edge, circular abstract paintings with concentric rings of color. Her human-scale paintings have been described as inducing states of meditation. Lu’s work also includes sculptures of interlocking wood blocks, shaped paintings, and sewn fabric collages. Her abstractions have been compared to the Washington Color School painters such as Kenneth Noland. Linling Lu’s large-scale painting compositions are included in Fields and Formations, A Survey of Mid-Atlantic Abstraction, curated by Kristen Hileman. The 12-artist group exhibition recently traveled from The Delaware Contemporary Museum to American University Museum and remains open through May 22, 2022. Linling Lu: Musical Meditations, a solo show (Feb19-June 5,2022) opened at Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, the area's premier destination for fine art, contains a series of paintings created from 2019 to the present, many of which were composed during the two years of the ongoing pandemic. Lu views these works as a means of “healing from the chaos and uncertainty of life.” Lu’s large, circular canvases pulsate with color and invite viewers to reflect on their memories and connections with music. Lu’s work was included in public and private collections nationally and internationally such asMicrosoftArt Collection, Capital One headquarters, CityCenter DC, Hall Arts Hotel, and the permanent collection of the Embassy of The United States of America in Beijing among a group of artists including Cai Guo-Qiang, Maya Lin, Betty Woodman, Xu Bing, Jeff Koons, and Fred Tomaselli...
