Leslie Zelamsky
"Point of Departure 2", abstract, blues, greens, pink, mixed media painting

2018

About the Item

Leslie Zelamsky's "Point of Departure 2" is a 42 x 42 x 2.75 inch mixed-media painting on wood panel. This abstract painting contains an assortment of organic shapes that contain their own, internal worlds of color, marks, scrapes and drips. The evolution of the painting is revealed as underlying layers are exposed by scraping and sanding. The color palette is a rich combination of deep blues, greens, muted pink and yellows. This piece is signed on the reverse and can be hung unframed. Point of Departure 2 is the second piece in Zelamsky's "Point of Departure" series where the artist explores how she arrives at a finished piece. Deeply rooted in intuition and spontaneity, each layer is the result of the moment that came before. The "Point of Departure" series also reflects major departures in the artist's personal life that have influenced her arrival in the present. Leslie Zelamsky is a mixed media artist who creates paintings, sculptures and installations. Her paintings celebrate the contrasting aspects of the mind’s use of intuition and deliberate action. She uses paint, tar, stain, and other materials to create abstract images that reference architecture, light and space. Zelamsky’s sculpture explores the ideas of separation, inclusion and isolation; reflected in commonplace structures, through the use of common building materials. Zelamsky’s forms are concurrently architectural and organic. Physicality is an important part of the artist’s work as she seeks synergy between visual and physical weight. Intuition and process are fundamental as are allowing and patience. While Zelamsky’s sculpture and installations lean to political and societal issues, there is also an inherent seductive, aesthetic beauty in the form, space and texture. Zelamsky’s goal is to provide the viewer with an image that allows an ethereal experience. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
