About the Item

Series collection. The painting size is 18x18 in., acrylic on board. This painting is published in Rostom book page 173. ROSTOM (1932-2013) Rostom Voskanian was born in Tabriz, Iran in 1932. The Voskanian family moved to Tehran where Rostom’s education began at an Armenian school, then continued at the Alborz High School (known as college). His studies culminated at the University of Tehran where he graduated from the School of Art. In 1964, he was awarded the Prestigious Parisian scholarship to attend “L’Ecole Beaux-Arts”. He returned to his alma mater in Tehran as an assistant professor where he worked with renowned architects and professors. He eventually became the Dean of Tehran University’s School of Architecture until 1987. During his tenure, he engaged in many different architectural projects, private residences, commercial entitles, governmental projects, and much more. In 1987, through Rostom’s avant-garde approach, his vision and originality, a beautiful and unique work of art known as the “Holy Cross Chapel” was brought to life on the grounds of the stadium. Rostom was also an accomplished painter and sculptor. Between 1951-1998, he participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Tehran, Paris, California, and New York. He was the recipient of many awards including the first prize from the Paris University, and the Golden Medal at the Biennale of Fine Arts of Tehran in 1957. On August 11, 2013, he passed away due to Leukemia. Although greatly missed, his spirit remains with us through his art for generations to come.
