With strokes of Gold, Oil, Gesso, and Acrylic, Shizico orchestrates a visual symphony of abstract expression in this ongoing series [Landscape Memories]; this Diptych is part of her [Sunlit Series], where she developed and explored all sorts of mediums, in this case, gold leaf gilding brushstrokes layered with the landscape at her gardens.
The [Sunlit Series] is a profound exploration of captivating yellow/gold leaf. Yellow is a colour she believes has the healing power for those afflicted by grief.
The golden hues dialogue with the layers of landscape in the background. The interplay of these contrasting elements ( the textured surface of gold leaves against the oil paint of the landscape) adds another layer of fascination.
The result is a breath-taking testimony to the profound connection between the materials, the subject (the deeper meaning of the landscape and the memories), and the artist-self.

About the Artist
Dr. Shizico Yi is a London-based artist, working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns loss, repetition, everyday subjects and memories. With a design and film background, Shizico combines her interests in making installation projects which relate to the artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master's in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angeles. The USA.
