About the Item
This Oil impasto and Goldleaf on Paper, named Peony Summer, is a part of Summer Bloom Series by Award winning British artist Shizico Yi. She created the painting in her garden painted plein air during Summer, it took more than 2 weeks for each layer to dry before she build the depth of the painting which bringing early summer peony in her garden to timeless ream on this special oil paper.
In this series, Shizico Yi deepens her exploration with impasto, to bring 3D onto a painterly space, and bringing modernity into landscape genre with her intricate study;
also, Shizico is playing with the contrast between tradition of woodblock print sensitivity vs western materials (oil, gesso).
