Susan Hable
"Soft Landing" - black and green, abstract, pattern, botanical

2026

About the Item

This abstract painting features hues of yellow, red, green, blue and black. Susan Hable is inspired by the work of David Hockney, Milton Avery, Henri Matisse, Alex Katz, Howard Hodgkins, Hilma af Klint, Georgia O'keeffe, Barbara Hepworth and Constantin Brâncuși. Athens-based multidisciplinary Artist Susan Hable’s Tending the Wild Quiet presents a series of new paintings in which gardens serve as catalysts for intuition and memory, unfolding freely across her vibrant canvases. Susan’s practice centers on creating bold, luminous passages of color guided by instinct, energy, and play. Elements drawn from travel occasionally emerge—an echo of a bonsai encountered in Japan, a fleeting botanical form recalled rather than directly observed. These fragments drift through the compositions as part of a broader emotional landscape where growth, attunement, and joy exist in a quiet, shifting balance. Susan received a BFA from the University of Alabama and pursued further studies at the Fuji Studio in Florence, Italy, and at Parsons School of Design in New York. She is the co-owner of Hable Gallery in Corsicana, Texas, and serves as Creative Director of the design studio Hable Construction. Her work has been featured in numerous publications, including The New York Times, T Magazine, Forbes, Architectural Digest, and Lookout Design Report.
