Takefumi Hori's mixed media paintings are created using multiple layers of acrylic paints, acrylic gels, sometimes an acrylic or oil crayon for detail along with gold, silver, and copper leaf applied to canvas. The paintings are lush to behold. They present a calm, creamy background staging the brilliant energetic forms in Hori's abstracts. Hori employs his knowledge of calligraphic movement with the rhythms generally moving from lower left to upper right. The uncomplicated backdrop and simpler geometric forms represent for him his own cultural background of Tokyo and the East, and are juxtaposed with the vibrant color and materials symbolizing the energy and openness of his adopted New York City and the West.
Hori was born in Tokyo, Japan, but now resides in Brooklyn, NY with his wife. He has exhibited both domestically and internationally in New York, Chicago, Miami, Washington, DC, London, and Hong Kong and is part of numerous private and public collections.
