“Spirit Guide” by Allison Green is a large-scale oil painting inspired by butterfly migration. Depicting a cluster of amber colored butterflies set against the center of a deep red background, this work is part of Green’s “Celestial Navigation” series.
Guided by an inner directive, butterflies often find their way across continents, driven by an internal system called celestial navigation. Using this instinctual navigation, they ultimately arrive at their far off destination by observing the sun, moon and stars along the way. Green's series examines the many metaphors, which lie beneath the ethereal and iconic butterflies, as they celestially navigate the skies to complete their long journeys. It also encourages us to examine those similar intuitive forces we also hold within.
