About the Item
Artist Comments
Fluffy sheep in shades of pink and yellow float on a turquoise background. They look out to the viewer with both knowing and playful expressions. Part of Lesli DeVito's long running series of sheep, pairing these gentle animals with clever titles to represent human thoughts and groups. Of this painting, Lesli says, "On my 15th birthday I went to the Bahamas on a church mission trip. We stayed in a tiny house on the beach and during the day we taught all of the local children how to swim. I will never forget the charming people and the beauty of the island. I could not believe how clear the turquoise water was and how I could see schools of the fish my mom had in her salt-water fish tank. This painting is dedicated to the beautiful people of the Bahamas."
About the Artist
Lesli Devito can't quite remember when she started painting, just that she's been doing it for quite a while now. With no formal training, Lesli took her own path and experimented with different types of paint. Eventually, she settled on something unconventional: acrylic house paint. She hopes that her works will "take people to their happy place." Lesli also created a blog called My Old Country House in which she writes about her life, art and other adventures.

- Sleeping Under the Stars, Original PaintingBy Andrea DossLocated in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
What do sleeping dragons dream of? Starry nights and moonlit trees Castles tall and oceans deep Dancing on the whispering wind And flying to where the sunlight bendsAbout the Artist
Andrea Doss discovered that there were stories hiding in her paintbrush, and has been bringing them to life with her art ever since. Her paintings capture the essence of children’s books and lullabies. Andrea’s love for fairytales and storytelling is evident in her personification of animal friendships and activities. Adventurous, sweet, and whimsical are appropriate words to describe the artist’s fanciful characters. Andrea lives in Texas and works from her home, always closely supervised by her opinionated one-eyed cat named Poe.Words that describe this painting: dragon, storybook art, kids art, stars, night sky, nursery art...

- Mixed MarriageBy Maureen O'Hara UreLocated in Salt Lake City, UT"Mixed Marriage" by Maureen O'Hara Ure, mixed media on panel, 16 x 24 inches. Relying on sturdy panel to hold up to months, sometimes years, of revisions, O'Hara Ure slowly builds up an image, obsessively laying down marks in thin, sanded layers of paint, ink, and pencil to create a uniquely smooth, almost polished texture distinctive to her style. When a panel returns to her studio from a show, she may begin to tinker with the image, perhaps first sanding out or painting over just a section. "Often as not, I keep going and start all over, using gesso to erase any memory I have of the painting." "For over fifteen years, all of my major projects have begun with my drawing overseas in museums and at historical sites. I returned to my studio and set about using some of the raw ideas in my travel sketchbooks to begin developing new work, taking liberties with the art-historical material I had collected. The exhibit of new paintings on panel at Phillips Gallery...Category
