"Spring Thaw, Maine" is a 17 x 23 inches oil on Masonite winter landscape by American painter DeCourcy Taylor. The snowy Maine landscape is signed and dated in the lower right. Provenance: Private Collection, Carversville, Pennsylvania. DeCourcy Taylor was born in 1930 in New York City and grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut. Since then, he has lived in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, and presently resides in Austin, Texas. He received his formal art education at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. He has been a painter and a sculptor for over seventy years, working in oil and watercolor mediums. Until 1991, he worked in stone lithography. When he moved to Maine, he donated his press and stones to the Museum School. In 1954, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts purchased one of his three lithographs. He also designed, illustrated, and art directed for Boston advertising agencies and textbook and trade publishers and worked on sculpture for a Boston studio. Luis Lusnich (Italy / Argentina, 1911-1995) Wonderful mid modern oil painting of four young girls playing with birds and a white cat. Original oil on masonite. Dimensions 20" x 24". The frame measures 25" x 29". The painting is in excellent condition and sits a bit loosely in the frame. Signed and dated lower right. Luis Lusnich was an Argentine painter who studied painting and decoration. In 1930 he arrived in Argentina and attended the National Academy of Fine Art. He participated in the decoration of the dome of the Galerias Pacifico in Buenos Aires in 1946. Lusnich settled in Tucuman and directed the chair of drawing and painting of the Superior Institute of Art of the provincial University, remaining in office for 15 years. From 1944 he participated in the National Salons, making numerous solo and group exhibitions. My passion is nature, where everything connects for me. This energy saturates my work.” Cathy Goodale is a dedicated, persistent, and educated artist whose style reflects individuality. Her career has been filled with painting, teaching and learning. The demand for excellence, painting in oil and watercolor, continues to drive all of her endeavors and imagination pushes her to paint past ‘artistic safe places’. Growing up in Denver, Colorado, with an early introduction to art classics through her grandmother was instrumental in leading Cathy to Stephens College in Missouri and to a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Northern Colorado. She continued her art training at Denver University, studying commercial art under William Sanderson. Along with art, she has a degree in special education, but this career did not suit her. She knew that art would be her lifelong pursuit. The Estes Park resident maintains a busy schedule with monthly workshops at Loveland's Sculpture Depot and in Estes Park. Specific topics include techniques, color, detail and shapes. An established artist in her own right, Goodale's focus is on teaching. The classes typically run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with plenty of one-on-one instruction. Her teaching allows for travel to plein-air paint, she frequents Colorado, California, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Utah, Nebraska and Wyoming. But has also traveled abroad for workshops in Africa, Mexico, Costa Rica, Ireland, Spain, Italy, France and even Russia. These experiences of different cultures will always be one of her greatest learning and life moments. On one such adventure with 21 fellow artists, they used the subway system in Paris to go to selected locations to paint.
