Contemporary Animal Paintings

CONTEMPORARY STYLE

Used to refer to a time rather than an aesthetic, Contemporary art generally describes pieces created after 1970 or being made by living artists anywhere in the world. This immediacy means it encompasses art responding to the present moment through diverse subjects, media and themes. Contemporary painting, sculpture, photography, performance, digital art, video and more frequently includes work that is attempting to reshape current ideas about what art can be, from Felix Gonzalez-Torres’s use of candy to memorialize a lover he lost to AIDS-related complications to Jenny Holzer’s ongoing “Truisms,” a Conceptual series that sees provocative messages printed on billboards, T-shirts, benches and other public places that exist outside of formal exhibitions and the conventional “white cube” of galleries.

Contemporary art has been pushing the boundaries of creative expression for years. Its disruption of the traditional concepts of art are often aiming to engage viewers in complex questions about identity, society and culture. In the latter part of the 20th century, contemporary movements included Land art, in which artists like Robert Smithson and Michael Heizer create large-scale, site-specific sculptures, installations and other works in soil and bodies of water; Sound art, with artists such as Christian Marclay and Susan Philipsz centering art on sonic experiences; and New Media art, in which mass media and digital culture inform the work of artists such as Nam June Paik and Rafaël Rozendaal.

The first decades of the 21st century have seen the growth of Contemporary African art, the revival of figurative painting, the emergence of street art and the rise of NFTs, unique digital artworks that are powered by blockchain technology.

Major Contemporary artists practicing now include Ai Weiwei, Cecily Brown, David Hockney, Yayoi Kusama, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami and Kara Walker.

Duel, Original Elephant Painting, Safari Animal Art, Landscape Wildlife Painting
Located in Deddington, GB
Duel is an original oil painting by Sophie Harden. This wonderful painting of two fighting bull elephants, kicking up the dust as they go has been inspired by Sophie’s travels to Kenya. Painted on dark a blue background, using contrasting white oil to pick out where the light hits the subject gives this painting a huge sense of movement and fluidity. Sophie’s contemporary monochrome technique allows movement to flood the painting, from the explosive energy and grace of animals to the small details that captures a moment in time. Sophie works to accentuate the adaptation of light, making the viewer perceive a 3D object...

Eyes of Shivers - Cinema Inspired Oil Painting w/ Couple Embracing and a Dog
Located in Chicago, IL
In Shivers, a disease is spread through the throat, resulting in a zombie-like infection. In this painting, coupled with an image from The Eyes of Laura Mars, is a reference to ideological possession and the use of compelled speech. It is a concern towards those who display totalitarian traits in their quest for justice, too caught up in their own righteousness to really consider the damage they are doing. The do in the background stands above the lifeless body of a woman, it is dogma and its dismantlement of womanhood. Inspired by the films Shivers, 1975 The Eyes of Laura Mars, 1978 Georgia Hinaris Eyes of Shivers oil on panel 16h x 24w in 40.64h x 60.96w cm GHS003 Horror films are the most profound and visceral of films, garnering the most extreme responses: vehement hatred and cultish admiration. Horror elicits a controlled neurosis while exposing the rejected weaknesses and brutalities of humanity. I embrace the power of cinema and its ability to alter perception, as it is media that is a reflection of our primordial desires. I’m fascinated by concepts involving the limits of human perception, the ambiguity of morality in relation to nature, the paradoxical nature of reality, and the human struggle to reckon with uncertainty. Humans bear the burden of being as we are, all caught in a flux of unbelievable cognitive abilities and animalistic instincts. Every painting is in its own universe and I cater to it. Nothing is precious. Chaos is embraced. Georgia Hinaris, b. 1993, Chicago, Illinois Education 2019 MFA Painting, New York Academy of Art, New York, NY 2015 BFA Painting, Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY Exhibitions 2020 Summer Exhibition, Flowers Gallery, New York, NY Summer Juried Exhibition, Prince Street Gallery, New York, NY 2019 Di Donna Gallery, New York, NY AXA Art Prize, San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco, CA, Richard Gray...

A lively kaleidoscope of monarchs blissfully flap their wings against a vast cloudless sky. Shades of orange and yellow pigments flutter about with detailed patterns in a hush blue space. This piece is part of Natasha Tayles's series of butterflies.

Cranes are Flying, 2011., oil on canvas, 65x70 cm
Located in Riga, LV
Cranes are Flying, 2011., oil on canvas, 65x70 cm Nugzar Avtandilovich Kahiani was born in Poti, Georgia in 1952. He studied at the Art College named after Nikoladze. Then he went to serve in the Soviet Army from1970 to 1972. After completing his military service he entered the Stieglitz St. Petersburg State Academy of Art and Industry at the faculty of artistic metal, from which he graduated in 1986. During his studies, he has been actively engaged in painting. His favorite artists are Gauguin, El Greco, Botticelli, Turner and Picasso. Works of artistic stone He worked also with stone, cornelian and onyx. But his soul gravitated to bright and blustery color, and so he has became engaged in painting. At first his paintings were quiet, with muted tonal gamma. The color image was built on the play of hues and halftones. Such a careful elaboration of color educates the taste, sharpness and delicacy of vision. Gradually, the painter became more experienced, and his paintings acquired assurance and power of maturity, blooming in colorful brilliancy. Nugzar's color preferences The color of Nugzar’s paintings is deep and multi-layered. It is woven of infinite number of hues and filled with light. At first sight it may be difficult to recognize the shapes in the play of flickering color dabs. The figures appear gradually, they draw the first breath just before our eyes, crystallizing from the color heap. The painter is attracted by major tonality and motives that years ago could be called “the gallant feasts” - repasts, assiduities, music parties, and airings. After somewhat daemonic, infernal imagery of early paintings, it has appeared the theme of “Le joie de vivre,” the joy of life. Source of inspiration Born in the ancient Kolkhida, he keeps the blissful pagan feel of entirety and completeness of being. It is embodied almost literally in his favorite personage auroral gorgeous-bodied beauty of a girl. He grants these forms even to Olympian inhabitants - Aphrodite, Athene, Arthemide, let alone the Bacchants. I remember unwittingly that Niko Pirosmani similarly painted on his impoverished buckrams the luxurious prince repasts and languid, elephantine beauties. Working style But his style is not bounded by grotesque parody, as well as the irony is not the only aspect of his world outlook. In his landscapes we can catch the ecstatic admiration with Nature. In contradistinction to his favorite impressionists, he never paints from nature and never bears in mind the particular place. It is just a blooming Earth, studied very closely, so that the trees are cut by the edges of the painting, and at the same time it is a bird’s eye view revealing infinite, boundless spaces. Nougzar says that the landscape for him is first of all a color ensemble. He can just leaf through the illustrated journal, nourishing his eye with color in various combinations, and so get the impulse to create a ‘physical’ landscape image. Probably, his landscapes are no less fantastical than his figure compositions, but such is his talent, his mission - to make the world more beautiful and gentle than it is in reality. Exhibitions Nugzar Kakhiani...

Chinese Contemporary Art by Jia Yuan-Hua - Meditation No.2
Located in Paris, IDF
A person's life is full of excitement, anger, sadness, joy, separation, and convergence. Some people win, some lose, some are famous, some are unknown, some gain fame and fortune, some are full of pride, some are depressed and unhappy. Only by letting go of obsessions can we live happily and easily. If you want, close your eyes and sit quietly for a few hours, you will find another true self, understand what you really need, why you live, and how to live more meaningfully. Jia Yuan-Yua is a Chinese artist born in 1980 who lives and works in Beijing, China. Jia works mainly with oil and acrylic in his painting. His contemporary artworks focus on social issues such as the protection of historical buildings, the inheritance of traditional culture, the conflict between tradition and contemporary times, education reform and the sustainable development of the natural ecological environment. There are two main forms of expression in his works. One is a common realistic technique known for paintings. The other is to use an oil painting knife...
