Infused with neo-expressionist influences and demonstrating a figurative approach akin to the portraits and sculptures of Benin infused with a refreshing wave of energy. By channeling a playful flirtation with mark-making, Andre shows us that childhood creativity is “as pure as it gets”. Vibrant Green Blue Orange Abstract, Painting, Acrylic on Canvas
Located in Yardley, PA
Oct. 2020. 36 x 36 x 1.5 inches. Unframed Acrylic Painting-Ready to hang-sides will be painted a Greenish tone to match the painting. (16 layers) Gallery Wrapped Cotton Canvas. Textured/Layered Abstract Painting. Painted with palette knives. I added several layers of primer before adding my main layers. I have used 2 Blue hues and 2 Green hues as the main colors for this painting. Then I started to focus on the abstract lines & patterns I wanted to create. I decided to create some whimsical abstract strokes which gave me more ideas to use on this painting. I have used additional colors such as Red, 2 shades of Orange, Gold, and a Teal Blue as the additional whimsical abstract accent color lines and patterns. There are small touches of Gold in the Teal section of the painting. There are small details that are hard to pick up with my photographs. The painting can be hung 4 different directions - so there is 2 Vertical hangings and 2 Horizontal hangings. Felt pads included on backside corners. Signed on the backside and Certificate of Authenticity included with the painting 1/1. ***PLEASE note: Lighting will make a huge difference in the mood of this painting-as with any painting. “Anew”- Vibrant, Mixed Media, Abstract Fine Art Painting
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Imani Bilal is a contemporary abstract painter and poet based in Jersey City, New Jersey. Her work is deeply inspired by the many states of the human condition and is rooted in her spiritual (Islamic) practices. As she explains, “I strive to convey the notion of Tawheed (oneness), the idea of primordial matter, chaos, and calm; of all things sharing a source and being connected to an infinite mound, inclusive of the human experience.” Her language is versatile and her approach, unconventional, working with acrylic, ink, and resin to articulate emotion and promote connectivity through color and movement. Bilal, who has been experimenting with paint since childhood, has developed a unique process of her own. She often paints while seated on the floor to pour her whole body into the composition, using her hands, mouth, and found objects to create an array of effects that become part of an intricate yet fluid work of art. Bilal’s first solo show in New York City, Fingerprints of Ruh (2020), curated by Nemo Librizzi, was met with enthusiasm and led to gallery representation by Chase Contemporary Gallery and recently, Mazlish Gallery...

Untitled Abstract Expressionist Painting, 1988. Modernist Composition
By Seymour Boardman
Located in Surfside, FL
10 X 17 without frame. Seymour Boardman (1921–2005) was a New York abstract expressionist. Since his first solo exhibition in Paris in 1951, Boardman developed a personal vision and style of his own, following his own path of abstraction. As a painter he sought to reduce the image to its bare essence. Initially working in the freely brushed manner of Abstract Expressionism, Boardman gradually eliminated the arbitrary aspects of his work until only straight lines and two or three areas of flat, sometimes somber, tones remained. He could hardly have achieved more with less. In a career that was steady and determined, Seymour Boardman created paintings that are unique, while avoiding fashion and trends. His work stands alone because it derives from the Romantic landscape previously articulated by Milton Avery and early Mark Rothko (who was a friend) and later developed into almost hard edged painting. Seymour Boardman majored in art at City College of New York in 1938-1942. He served in the United States Air Force from 1942–1946, during which he was hospitalized for over a year due to a wound to his left shoulder, which resulted in partial paralysis of the arm and hand. After a full medical discharge from the service in 1946, he left for Paris to continue his art education at the École des Beaux-Arts, Académie de la Grande Chaumière, and Atelier Fernand Léger. Boardman's work became more abstract but still based on figure and landscape. He returned to New York in 1949 and went to the Art Students League. Boardman continued to paint dark, moody paintings using a limited palette of black, white, grey, and an occasional additional color. Departed Le Havre France on the Liberte, arriving with his wife in New York on Jan. 22, 1952. In 1955, he had his first one-man show in New York at the Martha Jackson Gallery. It was favorably reviewed by Hilton Kramer, Emily Genauer, Fairfield Porter, and others. "…inscrutable, dark, mostly in blacks stained here and there with calm whitish shapes, they yet manage to suggest something inhuman and romantic…" (N.Y.Times, March 26, 1955). He began to acquire recognition in the 1950s with his paintings of griddled facets seen as if through a frosted glass, without any crisp lines, and in bright colors favoring reds. Boardman's friends included Lawrence Calcagno, Perez Celis, John Hultberg, Burt Hasen, Frank Lobdell, Richards Ruben, Robert Ryman and Nassos Daphnis. Throughout the 1960s, Boardman showed at both the Stephen Radich Gallery and the A.M. Sachs Gallery; in 1967, The Whitney Museum of American Art and the Guggenheim Museum acquired a painting each. In the early 1970s Boardman had a large exhibition of paintings at the Andrew Dickson White...

Woman figure depicting climate change. About the artist: Lisa M. Shimko’s paintings reveal the influences of sundry research topics, old memories, and daydreaming. Growing up in York County, Pennsylvania, Shimko spent her childhood collecting rocks and exploring the terrains of forests and farms. Colors, forms, and textures from nature and the simple designs of Pennsylvania German folk art infused the foundation of her artistic aesthetic. In 1994, Shimko earned a BFA in painting with a minor in art therapy from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. The urban landscapes of the Northeast supplied a different kind of nature for her to explore—architecture, social issues, history, and all the music in between. Hilton Head...

'Eleonora' - clouds - fauvism - colorful - Greek mythology - cherub
Located in Atlanta, GA
This colorful portrait features hues of green, blue, gold and red. This piece is framed in a painted wooden frame measuring 29.5 by 37.5 inches. New Orleans native, Athens-based artist, Shelby Little, creates paintings as a form of visual storytelling with hidden narratives that unfold throughout her process. Weaving together inspiration from memories, dreams, and her surroundings, she creates a personal mythos, allowing her characters to reveal themselves at their own pace. Her works explore the cyclical nature of time, mortality, the afterlife, the thin line between order and chaos, and the seemingly inherent duality in all things. Shelby’s characters in the nearly endless versions of Greco-Roman myths...

Shop Abstract, Landscape, Figurative and Still-Life Paintings

Painting is an art form that has spanned innumerable cultures, with artists using the medium to tell stories, explore and communicate ideas and express themselves. To bring abstract, landscape and still-life paintings into your home is to celebrate and share in the long tradition of this discipline.

When we look at paintings, particularly those that originated in the past, we learn about history, other cultures and countries of the world. Like every other work of art, paintings — whether they are contemporary creations or works that were made during the 19th century — can often help us clearly see and understand the world around us in a meaningful and interesting way.

Cave walls were the canvases for what were arguably the world’s first landscape paintings, which depict natural scenery through art. Portrait paintings and drawings, which, along with sculpture, were how someone’s appearance was recorded prior to the advent of photography, are at least as old as Ancient Egypt. In the Netherlands, landscapes were a major theme for painters as early as the 1500s. Later, artists in Greece, Rome and elsewhere created vast wall paintings to decorate stately homes, churches and tombs. Today, creating a wall of art is a wonderful way to enhance your space, showcase beautiful pieces and tie an interior design together.

No matter your preference, whether you favor Post-Impressionist paintings, animal paintings, Surrealism, Pop art or another movement or specific period, arranging art on a blank wall allows you to evoke emotions in a room while also showing off your tastes and interests. A symmetrical wall arrangement may comprise a grid of four to six pieces or, for an odd number of works, a horizontal row. Asymmetrical arrangements, which may be small clusters of art or large, salon-style gallery walls, have a more collected and eclectic feel. Download the 1stDibs app, which includes a handy “View on Wall” feature that allows you to see how a particular artwork will look on a particular wall, and read about how to arrange wall art. And if you’re searching for the perfect palette for your interior design project, what better place to turn than to the art world’s masters of color?

On 1stDibs, you’ll find an expansive collection of paintings and other fine art for your home or office. Browse abstract paintings, portrait paintings, paintings by popular artists and more today.
