About

Represented by George Billis Gallery, NYC & LA -- Alex Roulette’s paintings depict false realities. The artist constructs landscapes from numerous source photographs, which he uses as references to create his finely-tuned oil paintings. The combination of such disparate elements - seamlessly combined - result in uncanny scenes. States the artist, “The disjointed nature of the source images, contrasting with the way they are realistically unified, take on a contingent sense of reality.”

Roulette’s paintings are a tribute to contemporary American culture both in his youthful subjects and his reference to the proliferation of images we are constantly confronted with. Roulette explain, “The current expanding abundance of accessible images is allowing the imagination to expand the ability to visualize unseen places.”

Roulette was born in Columbus, Ohio and now currently resides in Brooklyn, NY. He received a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art in painting with a minor in graphic design. His work has been featured on the cover of New American Paintings (2009) and in more than fifteen exhibitions throughout New York City, Santa Fe, Washington DC, Baltimore, Columbus, and Cincinnati.
