Anna Annuk Soghomonyan is a distinguished artist, born in 1980 in Yerevan, Armenia. She holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts (2012), and a Master’s degree in Psychology from Yerevan State University of Languages and Social Sciences (2002). Having participated in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, Annuk has garnered many awards, recognitions, and positive critiques from both esteemed critics and enthralled audiences. Annuk’s paintings are in many private collections around the world and in several public collections. Anna Soghomonyan's art results from an exploration of deep psychological and cultural layers. Her works serve as poetic dialogues between the inner and outer worlds of the human experience, as well as between personal memory and collective heritage. Her art develops along two main thems the psychological examination of identity and the reinterpretation of cultural heritage. Her style is characterized by combinations of emotionally charged color fields. Her palette reflects the vibrant and diverse colors of Armenia. She often works in thematic series, exploring a specific idea or emotional state in each. Her works feature elements of modern expressionism, surrealism, and primitivism, intertwined with the traditions of Armenian fauvism, creating a unique and recognizable artistic language. Soghomonyan works in series, dedicating approximately two to three years to each. She uses oil or acrylic paints, depending on the artistic objective. Her creative process, as she describes it, is deeply connected to the subconscious; she initially creates chaotic marks and textures in various colors, subsequently discerning the future painting within them, thus bypassing conscious intent. This method, reminiscent of surrealist automatism and abstract expressionism techniques, allow characters and narratives to emerge not from conscious decision-making, but from inner, intuitive impulses.
