English 20th century portrait of an English Frigate in full sail at sea in oils.

Circa 1980

About the Item

English 20th century portrait of an English Frigate in full sail at sea in oils. A very well painted oil on canvas with great detail of a ship cutting through the sea at I'm sure great speed. The piece is an oil on canvas with I think gouache added to the waves to make them a brighter white. The piece is signed Mason and with some investigation, we are attributing this painting to the talented English painter Barry Mason who is a marine painting specialist. He often painted single ships with great detail, and this observation to detail is seen in this piece. Through contacting the expert on F.H.Mason. he put forward the attribution of the piece possibly being the work of Barry Mason. This would also be backed up by my restorer. When the painting was sent to be cleaned my restorer concluded the painting is only between 30 and 50 years old, though the style of the boat and skill in the painting would make the viewer believe it's older..! The piece is oil on canvas and it is framed in a vintage English mahogany frame.

Outstanding Scottish landscape from the late 19th to early 20th century oil on canvas. Born in Scone, Frazer would participate in the growth and development of Scottish landscape painting during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Indeed, Frazer would attend the acclaimed Royal Scottish Academy to receive his art education, intended to compete with English schools such as the Royal Academy in London. When his studies were complete, he would then base himself out of Edinburgh as he pursued a professional career. Edinburgh was and remains, the art capital of Scotland, and there was no place better for budding artist to plant their roots. Frazer’s work is a prime example of the growing influence of impressionism on Scottish landscape art...
