1973

About the Item

Acrylic on Masonite board, signed and dated (lower middle), 70cm x 70cm (91cm x 91cm framed). Price on request This work depicts Alan and his dog, Bella, on Michael Leonard’s balcony in his home in West London. Paintings featuring dogs and reflections, are themes which he revisited throughout the 1970s. The painting features in the book by Patrick Bade, Michael Leonard, Painter and Illustrator, 2021 (Peter Owen Publishers), at p.89. Michael Leonard is most probably most famous for his portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II, in the National Portrait Gallery in London, which is another portrait which informally captures the Queen, by placing one of her beloved Corgis within the picture.. His work is always beautifully composed and expertly delivered onto the board. Never very prolific as an artist, his work is highly prized and collected internationally. He retired from painting in 2009.
