Charles Breaker
Charles Breaker (1906-1985) - Framed Mid 20th Century Acrylic, The Orange Boat

Unknown

About the Item

A colourful and energetic acrylic painting of a bright orange fisherman's boat, captured from the water. The owner can be seen on board, giving the boat a good once over before taking it out to sea. The orange boat commands your attention in the centre of the composition, against the mudded grey harbour wall. Line and rope criss cross in all directions adding depth to the painting. Signed to the lower left-hand corner. Fixed to the reverse is a signed artist label inscribed with the title of the work. The painting is well presented in a contemporary grey frame. Glazed. On paper.

Duality of differences, two views, different accents, but in one wholeness. Fomin is a fairy-tale artist, a romance teller, who is choosing never ending life stories for a viewer. He is telling these stories with realistic language of the artist, citing the language of Bruegel sentimental sincerity of Chagall, but also a precise coloristic scheme, that was a signature of French Art in the second half of XX century.
