Dhiraj Chowdhury - Untitled - 14 x 10 inches (unframed size) ink on Paper ( Unframed & Door Delivered ) Style of the Artist : He steadfastly believes that art has to be closely associated with life – with humanity, with humanism. And he comes through with this concept in his works – which are sometimes heart – reading, sometimes violent, brutal even chaotic, but always cogent, modern, and somehow loaded with both wisdom and hope. About the Artist and his work : Born : 1936, West Benagal, India. Education and experience : Graduated from Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata, and Delhi Polytechnic (Delhi College of Art). In 1996 retired as professor of Painting, College of Art, New Delhi University. Published books on art. Founded a number of art groups and initiated art activities. Exhibitions : Held over 100 solo shows in major cities of India and 20 one-man shows abroad in USA, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Singapore, and Sweden. Participated in several group shows, national and international, including one in Geneva in 1979 with Miro, Dali, Calder, Cavalli, Pozzi, and Sugai. Received 15 awards, including the National Award from Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. Awards : 1950 - Received the Governors Medal, West Bengal. 1959 - Received award for his water colour painting, Govt. College of Art and Craft, Calcutta. 1961 - Received award for his graphic art, Delhi Polytechnic, New Delhi. 1964 - Award for his mural painting, Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta. 1966 - Award for his Poster Design, All India Poster Competition, New Delhi. 1968 - Received award from the Railway Board for his mural painting, New Delhi. 1970 - Received AIFACS Award, New Delhi. 1972 - Received award for his drawing, M.P. Academy, Madhya Pradesh. 1979 - Received award for his drawing, Fine Arts Academy, Amritsar. 1979 - Received AIFACS Award, New Delhi. 1980 - Received award for his drawing, Sahitya Kala Parisad, New Delhi. 1981 - Award for his drawing, A.P. Lalit Kala Academy, Hyderabad. 1981 - Received certificate for his drawing, All Indian Exhibition of Drawings, Chandigarh. 1984 - Received award for his drawing, National Exhb. of Art, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi.
