Edward Algernon Stuart DouglasSet of Four English 19th century Horse Racing scenes in extensive landscapes.
About the Item
English 19th century set of four oils on card, two horse racing scenes, and two-point to point scenes all in extensive landscapes.
Edward Algernon Stuart Douglas referred to as E.A.S. Douglas was born in 1850. He lived and worked in Barnes, England, near London. Douglas was a painter and printer of mainly hunting scenes, and exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1880 and 1892. Most of his work was on a small scale and these examples are very large paintings for him to have painted.
These are the only set of four that I've seen. These subjects were very popular and Douglas painted various versions of these subjects.
They are oils on artist's card and have been re-varnished.
They have been recently re-framed in new hand-made English gold frames of the finest quality.
All four are signed by the artist.
