Beautifully painted sunset on the river with a single figure in a punt and cattle crossing by the American artist, George Riecke. Most likely a New Orleans scene. Signed lower right. Circa 1890. Condition is very good. The painting is housed in its original gold leaf over gesso wood frame. Minor restorations to the frame. Overall framed measurements are 19.5 by 23.75 inches.
George Riecke (1848 - 1930) was active/lived in Wisconsin, New York. George Riecke is known for Farm animal, rural landscape. Little is known about this artist, a painter of rural landscape, except that he was active in New Orleans between 1887 and 1902 and was a member of the Artists Association of New Orleans.
