Storyteller (1935)

1935

About the Item

Artist: Gino Parin Medium: oil on canvas Signed on the base: Signed in the centre right "Gino Parin" Notes: The back bears a cartouche with the title of the work and the 1935 Venice Biennial cartouche After his initial training in Trieste, Gino Parin studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, approaching both the secessionism of Franz von Stuck and the realism of Lenbach. During his formative years, he travelled to various countries in Europe, including Austria, Switzerland, England and France. Between Symbolism and Pre-Raphaelite culture, he continued to participate in exhibitions in Trieste, but also in Munich, achieving growing international success. Present at numerous editions of the Venice Biennale, he exhibited until the 1930s, while after 1937 he was blocked due to the racial laws. This painting, Cantastorie (Storyteller), belongs to the mid-1930s, where the light, pleasantly exotic and seductive atmosphere of the interior is combined with the sensuality of the woman at the guitar.

  • Portrait of a noblewoman
    Located in Roma, RM
Artist: Pietro Lucchini Title: Portrait of a noblewoman (1843) Medium: oil on canvas Signature: Signed and dated in the center on the right “P.ro Luchini made Milan 1843” The freshness of colour and refinement of the composition, governed by a technically impeccable drawing and the adoption of a clear, luminous palette, are the main characteristics of this Portrait of a Biedermeier-style noblewoman. The minuteness of the details emphasising the décor and the description of the surroundings and clothing serve to clarify the rank of the woman portrayed. This aristocratic portrait makes Lucchini a true portraitist à la mode, in demand and acclaimed especially in the Lombardy region, but also internationally. In fact, the author's experience in the East is not to be forgotten: in 1850, he received an offer to teach painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna, but declined the offer to leave for Constantinople, where he arrived in 1851. He stayed in the East for another ten years, working mainly in Constantinople, Egypt and the court of the Shah of Persia. He worked mainly on official portraiture, adopting the same technical expertise that distinguished him in his Italian years. First canvas painting but with strip line On the back of the canvas, 3 small repairs are visible at the top original coeval frame UV lamp...
