About the Item
French early 21st Century Graffiti, street art, 'drip' painting on paper by Jonas “SUN7” Bournat. The work is signed and titled to the backboard. Presented in fine wood, glass and cloth custom frame.
A wonderful large impactful work which also carries a social message. The painting appears to be a play on the publicity adverts of the perfume 'J'Adore' by Christian Dior created in 1999 by Calice Becker. The red texts across the painting reading 'j'adore' and there is a large black 'D' in the centre of the background representing Dior. The work is possibly a commentary on fashion, its positive and negative impacts (such as the use of animal testing) that was and is so current at the time of the works creation.
Jonas Bournat, who lives and works in Paris,France, is better known under his pseudonym SUN7, and is obviously the result of crossings and overlaps between word and image, poetry and colour, art and the street. At the dawn of the 1990s, he discovered the world of New York tags. Spray can in hand, he attacks the walls, from Paris to New York.
In his artistic practice, the French artist develops an automatic writing from which forms are derived. There is neither syntax nor logic, but an upheaval of being. Intuition is necessary, the gesture is visceral. With ink, the artist dialogues, rewrites the letters, the words, the sentences of poems and texts that inspire him. In his perpetual research, the artist finds another way of writing, a new pictorial image, totem of his emotions. «I try to go from writing to abstraction, there is a gesture in the letter that creates movement, the line offers a dynamic. The automatic writing allows me to gradually abandon the meaning for energy, the meaning is hidden in the heart of the gesture. »
