About the Item
A nude figure portrait painting of a woman laying down.
My fascination with line and form originated with my love for figurative painting. This is a drawing I created during my time at SFAI where I was interested in capturing movement and personality within a single painting. I love to play with color to control the narrative of the painting and tell the viewer where to look first.
Strongly influenced by the brilliance that is Egon Schiele, my us of line and color exudes confidence in portraying the figure and communicating a mood. I have always found line drawing and painting to be such a beautiful yet powerful method for portraying the complex beauty that is the human form.
I am the artist, Mel Reese. I received my B.S. from Skidmore College in 2013 and an MFA in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in NYC in May 2017.
