Untitled - Oil on Board by Orazio Toschi - 1960s

1960s

About the Item

Untitled is a mixed colored artwork realized by Orazio Toschi (1887 – 1972) in the second half of XX century. Oil on board Signed lower right. Orazio Toschi was born in Lugo di Romagna, in the province of Ravenna, on 27 December 1887. In Faenza he attended the school of drawing and plastic of Maestro A. Berti, one of the last Macchiaioli, at the same time as at the Gymnasium. He graduated from the Academy of B.A. of Ravenna and is part of the Last Supper by Domenico Baccarini. After various transfers throughout Italy, he settled permanently (in 1938) in Florence where he will be part of the Florentine Academy of Arts and Design founded by Michelangelo. He reveals his artistic personality in the 1908 International Exhibition of Faenza obtaining the first prize and in his first solo show in Rome (1918) where works are so decidedly avant-garde that in 1919 he was invited by Marinetti to the Futurist Exhibition in Milan. His artistic activity is widely documented by his participation in the main group exhibitions and by the numerous solo shows in Italy and abroad. His works have been purchased from the main museums throughout Italy and also abroad. Many of the major Italian critics of the 20th century wrote about him and he was an art writer and editorial collaborator himself. His death took place in Florence on 4th July 1972.
