Very large scale and evocative figurative of boy on rock in the middle of rapids by San Francisco artist Patricia "Pat" Klein (American, b- 1951), Unframed. Condition: Excellent. Size: 87"H x 72"W. Signed on verso "Separate Premises, Pat Klein, 1986" and "PK 41" on stretcher bars. Painting was exhibited at: Greg Kucera Gallery Seattle - 7/3/86 - 8/3/86 and the Seattle Art Museum. Attended the University of California at Berkeley and received a B.A. in 1974, M.A. 1975, M.F.A. 1977. Pat Klein was an Associate Professor of Painting at the San Francisco Art institute for over 25 years, 1984-2009. Her paintings, in vibrant, expressionist colors and thick impasto, portrays an anonymous figure in generalized landscape settings, with an unsettling anxiety and the distortions of form and scale found in dreams. Pat was included in: Art in the San Francisco Bay Area, 1945-1980: An Illustrated History. Her work is shown at many international exhibitions, the University of California Berkeley Art Museum, the Seattle Art Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, Los Angeles County Museum, Stephen Wirtz Gallery, San Francisco, Kjaersmo Gallery in Oslo, Bryggerhuset Artist Workshop, Asker, Norway and in the Norwegian Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela. Her works are included in collections of the Oakland Museum, California, Philip Morris Corporation, New York and the Weissman Collection, Los Angeles. Klein has received two Ekely Fellowships grants from the Norwegian government. Exhibited: 30th Annual Emeryville Art Exhibition Greg Kucera Gallery Seattle - 7/3/86 - 8/3/86 1983 Visiting professor at UC Berkeley, visiting artists; teaching painting and drawing (Arizona Republic newspaper article 1987) “Pat Klein, who has been known in the San Francisco Bay area since the early 1970s, consistently portrays a single figure in each of her paintings. Set in illusive, unnatural environments, the figures exude introspection, solitude and even anxiety. Included in the Scottsdale exhibition will be eight paintings, as well as several works on paper. Klein, a faculty member at the San Francisco Art Institute, has had her work in the show "The Human Condition" at the San Francisco Museum of Art, and she also exhibited works in the 1986 "Western States Biennial" at the Brooklyn Museum in New York.”
