About the Item

Native American Pow-Wows celebrate the lives and culture of America's first settlers. Sometimes they celebrate a particular event or occasion within a particular tribe or "inter-tribal" multiple tribes coming together to drum, dance, eat and share stories. Every pow-wow begins with an opening dance - a colorful and vibrant procession of tribal members both male and female. Here costumed dancers can be seen being watched by the spirits of their ancestors. For many years Patricia Warfield was an instructor of Painting, Drawing, Print-Making and Ceramics at Art Studios including the Silvermine Guild of Artists in New Canaan, CT, Wooster Art Center in Danbury, CT, and her own studio Warfield Art Workshop in Stonington, CT. Throughout her life, Warfield was also an active exhibiting professional artist working in nearly every media—from miniature prints to large sculptures— and often developing new techniques and approaches. Her large-scale projects include a 27' pastel mural of the Rodeo at Jackson Hole, Wyoming which is now installed at the Holland Hotel in Alpine, Texas; 135 drawings documenting the 'Trial of the Century" of O.J. Simpson; Several large-paintings of Cigars and Animal Trophy Heads; a Scarecrow Series of eight paintings; Two 7’ Black Macramé Crow sculptures; and a ‘9/ 11’ Series including three large paintings; and an Anti-War Series including four large paintings. Ms. Warfield was affiliated with Galleries including the J. Russell Jinishian Gallery in Fairfield, CT; Westport Art Center, Westport, CT; Sailor’s Valentine Gallery, Nantucket, MA; Anguilla Gallery, Stonington, Connecticut; Stoneledge Gallery, Noank, CT; Silvermine Guild of Artists; Art Place, Westport, CT; Private Collector’s Gallery, Cork, Ireland; Galleria de Bellardo, New York, NY, and North Truro Art Gallery; She was also a member of the National Arts Club of New York. Her Exhibitions included: The New York Yacht Club, Harbour Court, Newport, RI; The Union League Club Gallery, New York, NY; Rooms With a View, Southport, CT; Seaman’s Church Institute Gallery, New York, NY; Mystic Art Association, Mystic, CT; Old Lyme Academy of Art, Old Lyme, CT. Warfield exhibited in over five One/Two -Man Shows, and 50 Group Exhibitions at Silvermine Guild of Art, Norwalk, CT, and in over 50 Group Exhibitions at Wooster Art Center in Wooster, MA. She also participated in over 75 Juried Exhibitions from 1957 to the present. Some of these included Art of the Northeast; Springfield Art League; New England Print Exhibit; New Haven Festival of Art.
