They were the Captains Courageous of Rudyard Kipling, the hero’s of Longfellow's The Wreck of the Hesperus and of James B. Connolly's tales of the sea.
John Ford Clymer's success as an artist can be traced to his boyhood in the Kittitas Valley located in the central regions of Washington state. It was there that he developed an enthusiasm for the world around him and an abiding respect for historical accuracy. Over the years John Clymer received numerous awards and honors including the revered Prix de West in 1976, from the national Academy of Western Art. Other great achievements included both gold and silver metals for his oils and charcoal drawings from the Cowboy Artists of America, "Western Artist of the Year" from the National Wildlife Art Collectors Society, and both John and Doris were honored at the Ellensburg National Art Show and Auction for their contributions to western heritage. John's highest honor came in 1988 when he was awarded the prestigious Rungius Medal from the Wildlife of American West Art...

"Civil Rights." Evergood's early commentary on racial issues in the 1950s depicts four black men gagged, roped and hanging from a tree. In the background, imprisoned blacks look on through a barbed-wire fence. Whites watch in horror but do nothing to help. Meanwhile, a two-legged and three-headed serpent who symbolizes evil - wraps himself around the tree that physically and symbolically separates the races. This is an important work in the history of American art. It may be one of the very earliest examples of a major American painter doing a major work that challenges racial segregation and injustice at a time when no one else would. Jirayr Zorthian(1911-2004), went through two Turkish massacres before age eight. He left Turkey at age nine with his family and spent a year in Padua, Italy, waiting for his visa to open to the United States. This period was very important in his life because his father took him to many cities in Europe and exposed him to great works of art. Zorthian arrived in the United States at the age of eleven and settled with his family in New Haven, Connecticut. He obtained his formal education there, after graduating from Yale in 1932, the Winchester Fellowship granted him a year and a half at the American Academy in Rome with travel and study throughout Europe.
His art career branched into various directions on his return to the United States. As a mural painter his reputation was established. He has forty two (42) murals throughout the United States.
