late 20th Century

About the Item

Vibrant painting of a glowing woman, perhaps Gaia (Mother Earth) in a flowerbed by Richard Elliot Poole (American, 20th Century). Dynamic flowers and patterns emanate from the figure, in an energetic palette of yellows, blues, reds, and greens. Signed "R. Elliot Poole" in the lower right corner. Presented in a metallic rose-colored frame. Image size: 25"H x 25"W Richard Elliot Poole was an internationally recognized painter and his work resides in many private collections. His art has been exhibited at the MOCA, The Palace of Legion of Honor, M.H. De Young Museum, Pasadena Museum of Art, and he had numerous solo shows throughout the world. Richard was an avid collector of Japanese prints and pre-Columbian art as well passionately curating musical recordings. He was widely travelled and his art was heavily influenced by life in Asia and the South Pacific. exhibited at Alamitos Bay Fine Arts Gallery, per Independent Press-Telegram (Long Beach), September 8, 1968, p.74, i.e. W-10 and article says “The most abstract artist shown is Richard Poole, a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology. His several paintings and drawings are in the hard edge vein.”; exhibited Pasadena Society of Artists, 44th Annual, Pasadena Art Museum, per Independent Star-News (Pasadena), June 2, 1968, page 24, i.e. C-4; alternate juror for California National Water Color Society, 52nd annual, Laguna Art Museum, October, per San Bernardino County Sun, July 16, 1972, page 32, i.e. C-14 Source: Nancy Dustin Moure, "Publications in California Art No. 11 , Index to California Art Exhibited at the Laguna Beach Art Association, 1918-1972; 2015 edition" About his art he wrote: “I try to communicate my feelings and intangible impressions of my inner vision of the world around me. I wish to create a mood, energy, or impression of a specific event, place or person. The act of painting is to me a meditative experience, which will convey whatever specific meaning the viewer wishes to feel from this.” My hope is to share some common inner experiences with the viewer – form, movement, interrelationships, energy fields, nature, optical vibrations, symbolism, and man are the elements I am trying to explore. Richard unlocked his love for numerology late in his life, but his propensity for creativity and vision lead him to dedicate two years to developing a system that includes every combination of Birth Dates and their corresponding personality traits. The culmination of Richard’s numerological research and his new system became The Numeric Personality, and was published by Double Day press.
