William Robert Shulgold
The Sculptress

About the Item

William Robert Shulgold (1897-1989), studied under Arthur Watson Sparks, head of Carnegie?€™s art department. He specialized in figurative genre subjects, displaying within his paintings a quality and understanding akin to 19th century impressionism. "The Sculptress", is an exceptional example, an original oil on canvas, signed, dated 1935. The artist on break, still wearing her artist's smock, languish smoking a cigarette, while still holding her clay sculpting tools in her right hand. There is a beautiful use of warmth and light depicted within in this painting. Please contact the gallery for additonal information.
