Tribute to the Council is an original modern artwork realized by Saro Mirabella in the half of the XX Century.
Original Oil on board.
Hand-signed by the artist on the lower left corner. Titled on the central margin.
Excellent conditions.
Exhibitions: Omaggio al Concilio, Palazzo Venezia, Venice (the label is present on the back).
Expressionist work depicting a crucifixion of Christ in the centre of St. Pietro Square with the pope on the right side watching the scene. This work has been realized by Saro Mirabella (Catania, 1914 - Catania, 1974). He has shown an exceptional disposition for drawing and takes the firm decision to follow his vocation for art. In the studio of the Catanese painter Spina he learns the first rudiments of painting and, in '34, he made educational visits to the museums of Rome and Florence. In 1936, he left his city and settled in Rome, also following the choice of many workers - of the arm and of the mind - who in that period left the island increasingly poor and devoid of initiatives. In Rome he is generously welcomed - in the studio in Piazza Melozzo da Forlì - by the Sicilian painter Domenico Quattrociocchi. He works as a retoucher in a photo studio; meanwhile he attended the Academy of S. Luca and the free School of Nude at the Academy of Fine Arts, where he met famous artists who appreciated his qualities. During the war he participated in the Resistance as partisan. After the liberation he was hired, as Guttuso's assistant, to teach the Drawn Figure.
