About the Item

Acrylic paint on canvas Signed Unique work Julien CALOT "Let‘s focus on the smiles, the energy, the movement, the emulation, the strength of life, the colours, the whirlwinds, the crowd, the frenzy to re-enchant the world » wrote Julien Calot in 2017. The works of the 36 years old French artist Julien Calot radiate of a blazing and colourful energy. The smiles, the strength of life and the peaceful power of nature coexist in his work. Besides he likes traveling abroad and meeting other cultures. He re-engages their symbols and treasures and makes us discover how refreshing these differences can be. The works comprise of a multiplex of small lines that reveal a rhythmic and chaotic figuration, while also providing an echo to the energy of surfing culture and street art, two sources that have inspired the artist. Through a series of large formats thriving from signs and lines at the heart of the intense monochromatic harmonies of blue, green, red or brown, Julien Calot celebrates an energetic and colourful life, sometimes violent, where the exuberance of the human and animal world intermingle in these strong and hypnotic, powerful works, flirting with tribal art, Pablo Picasso or Jean Cocteau. Julien Calot constellates his canvases with a multiplex of small colourful lines, until the canvas floods with a plethora of figurative motives. In this infinite complexity of details, the artist offers a vision of a coloured existence, blazing and energetic, diving into a chaotic universe of noisy cities and urban flows; a world that is resolutely contemporary. His large canvases incarnate the quest for a global vision of reality. Julien Calot attempts to capture life in its complexity, its nuances: peaceful and wild, playful and disturbing, luminous and somber. The artist delivers to us the true inhabited interior landscapes of these expressive characters and turbulences, which unfolds a lush, fertile and ominous nature. The artist exaggerates the disproportionality of the bodies and always intensifies his colours, flirting with naïve art. The game of dissolution of limits between the surface and the background, as well as the dynamism of these compositions, hypnotises the spectator. Originally from La Rochelle, and in love with surfing and the sea, Julien Calot reveals an universe that is profoundly marked by the codes of the surf culture: vibrant colours and the rock music type dynamics of the bodies and faces. He explores diverse forms of artistic creation, from writing, painting and photography through the new technological processes of editing, until the mixing of electronic music. Blue Statue, 2020 "For Blackburn, the Western’s heroic drama, good-versus-evil narrative, and assertive landscape are challenges to face in her work. These aspects of film can overwhelm a painting, thus distancing the viewer from the art. She wants the art to be dominant; “Painting wins,” she declares. She finds this happens when a painting possesses what she terms “classical balance.” By this the artist means that everything is where it needs to be compositionally—nothing can be changed—and “the whole can be seen at once.” Linda Blackburn...

  • "Ribbon" Extra-Large Contemporary Landscape Painting By American Martin Hoffman
    By Martin Hoffman
    Located in Frederiksberg C, DK
Introducing "Ribbon," an extraordinary painting from the "Jersey Meadow Series" by Martin Hoffman in the 1970s. From the 1970s onwards, Hoffman's career showcased a masterful combination of beautiful painting techniques and challenging subject matter. This contemporary painting depicts an abandoned landscape with a hypnotic blue plastic ribbon at its center. Hoffman's landscape creates an almost mesmerizing effect, where the subject matter of destruction and decay is presented poetically. The warm shades of grey with hints of blue, brown, and purple create a limited yet powerful palette that enhances the melancholic beauty of the painting. The painting measures 151cm x 202cm / 59.5in x 79.5in and is signed 'Martin Hoffman' on the reverse side of the canvas. It is titled 'Ribbon' and is dated '73.' Additionally, the artist specifies that the painting is part of the 'Jersey Meadow Series.' It is ready to hang and comes with a silver-painted frame. The condition of the painting is great, with hardly any signs of wear. The frame has a few scratches but is otherwise in good condition. Artist Bio: Martin Hoffman was a versatile artist and illustrator, mostly known for his paintings. He was a self-taught painter and a gifted drummer who had worked as an art director for the Miami News, Graphic Arts Inc., and Steiner & Wall Advertising. In 1973, Martin Hoffman landed his first solo exhibition at the OK Harris...
