Édouard Leon Cortès
Omnibus sur le Boulevard Saint Denis, Soir de

1910

About the Item

Omnibus sur le Boulevard Saint Denis is a great and classic Cortes that depicts this favorite spot where he loved to paint many of his compositions, in the dark of night. Cortes loved painting the streets of Paris particularly after dusk but under the cover of dark skies he could present the lights of Paris at their brightest. It is in a stupendous period frame. Size of the canvas inside the frame is 21.25 x 29. Cortes was a founding member in France of the Artistic and Literary Union of the canton of Lagny along with Henri Lebasque. Later he was predident of the Fine Arts Union of Lagny in 1926. And he was a member of all the main and important art societies such as the Salon de la Societe National and the Salon des Independents. His work has become more recognizable than almost any other French painter. Along with Luigi Loir, Galien-Laloue and Georges Stein he solidified a street scene genre of painting in Paris.

From 1928 and until the day before his death, Dupont-Crespin exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants.
