About the Item
American modernist landscape of houses on a hill in Sausalito, California, by Hugh Weller (1898-1982), original oil painting on board depicts houses and trees on a hillside in colors of green, yellow, orange, red, pink, creamy white, yellow and blue. Presented in a custom hardwood frame, outer dimensions measure 28 ½ x 37 ½ x 1 ¼ inches. Image size is 27 ½ x 36 ¼ inches.

About the Artist:
Hugh Weller painted scenery at Denver's Elitch Gardens and the Denham Theatre before studying with George Bellows at the Chicago Art Institute and at the British Academy in Rome. In the 1920s he taught at the Denver Art Academy, established a studio at Grand Lake, and executed murals at East High School and the Colorado State Capitol annex.
He lived and worked in Southern California and New Orleans in the 1940s, and returned to Colorado in the 1950s. Weller exhibited at the Biltmore Gallery, Los Angeles and the Denver Art Museum.
