XVALA
'Rona Bots: Silver Edition, ' Pandemic Collection, Mixed Media on Canvas by XVALA

2020

About the Item

This mixed media painting by XVALA has an aluminum metallic painted background with three robot memes. Varying shades of blue paint and oil stick create depth to the surface and define the three robots. The subject of this work is an elegant, subtle commemoration of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a society, we always suspected that robots would be the future, but no one ever imagined they would have to wear masks as we do now. This work serves as a reminder that the future is coming faster than we may have suspected. XVALA's art illuminates the hidden fallout spawned from our high tech Internet age. His' Fear Google' campaign exposed the decay of privacy and No Delete used hacked nude celebrity photos to highlight loss of control over personal information. The artist has worked with trash from the homes of Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, and others, as well as dirt from the graves of George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. The dirt appears in the New World Order collection as part of a pyramidal, 3D printed, living ant farm, a symbol of the surveillance and conformity the digital state forces on users. XVALA exposes a blurring between public and private information while supporting privacy, freedom of speech, and content ownership. His Meme Ranch project addresses a theft of both freedom of information and freedom of expression by governments and tech giants. XVALA is often compared to Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol, and Richard Prince. His street art offers satirical commentary on other artists, including Banksy.

  • 'Rona Wars: Cyberpunk Edition, ' by XVALA, Mixed Media Painting
    By XVALA
    Located in Oklahoma City, OK
This 61" x 44" mixed media painting by the artist XVALA is from his series 'Pandemic Collection: 6.' The painting was created with iridescent oil stick and spray paint on a screen print of a Star Wars poster. The abstracted "Basquiat-inspired" work depicts a silver robot with red eyes and large white teeth on a purple and blue background with the text 'cyber punk' in red at the bottom of the painting. 2020 twisted human reality in a number of ways no one could ever have predicted. XVALA pays tribute to this by melding the original Star Wars movie poster with the unexpected weirdness of the 21st Century. By combining a classic sci-fi villain with a modern symbol of literal Cyberpunk, XVALA shows the COVID-19 virus aimed straight toward the earth with a mission to destroy it. Exhibited during the Pandemic Paintings exhibition at the Meme Ranch August 7th, 2020. XVALA's art illuminates the hidden fallout spawned from our high tech Internet age. His' Fear Google' campaign exposed the decay of privacy and 'No Delete' used hacked nude celebrity photos to highlight loss of control over personal information. • 'Love Garden Party (Picnic #3), ' by Skip Hill, Mixed Media and Ink on Paper 2019
    Located in Oklahoma City, OK
'Love Garden Party (Picnic #3)' is an original mixed-medium work of art composed of high quality acrylic paint, opaque, metallic and neon inks, and hand-cut collage, on 35.875"h x 23.875"w on cold press paper stock. The painting is framed (41.5"h x 29.5”w.) with conservation quality, high UV-filtering museum glazing. Signed by the artist. Part of Skip Hill's 'Love Garden Party' series, this work depicts two women gathered around a festive table filled with food and drink. Skip Hill was born in 1961 in Padre Island, Texas but grew up primarily in Oklahoma City. After attending Oklahoma City University to study Advertising and Marketing, he worked as a graphic designer before relocating in 1987 to Southern California. A two-week trip to Thailand in 1989 turned into a year traveling throughout Southeast Asia while writing for a business magazine based in Bangkok. In 1990 Skip Hill relocated to the Netherlands, immersing himself in the culture and learning the Dutch language. His frequent visits the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum and The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam as well as the Boijman Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, sparked Hill’s interest in creating art inspired by aesthetic concerns over the strictly commercial art he produced during his advertising career. It was during this time abroad that he traveled through Germany, Czechoslovakia and Morocco. After returning to Oklahoma in 1993, Skip Hill studied formally at The University of Oklahoma with conceptual artist Hachivi Edgar Heap of Birds, and influential abstract painter George Bogart...
