“Walking and chewing bubble gum at the same time” is a 30 x 40 inch multimedia painting by Frantz Lexy. This landscape shows a green mountain with a rocky brown and beige summit. The background is dominated by a radiant purple, blue and pink sunset. The image balances its minimal composition with a densely textured surface, rendered in oil, acrylic, carving foam, and modeling paste. The painting is unframed and signed on the reverse side of the panel.
Through painting, Frantz Lexy explores personal identity, belonging, humanity’s place in nature, and its relationship with technology. He uses personal storytelling as a vehicle to engage contemporary concerns and invites others to find their own narratives through his imagery. Lexy is fascinated with how paradoxical imagery creates tension and compels us to reflect on our immediate reaction. Human figures are recurring motifs in his works. He is equally interested in texture and abstraction, and how they play within his landscapes. Lexy’s portfolio is a reflection on the plurality that exists within every individual, and specifically how that relates to people of color.
Frantz Lexy is a self-taught artist and experimentation is a driving force behind his vibrant paintings. His work has been shown in galleries across Massachusetts. He is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
