Gav Banns
The Brittany coast, Port-Blanc chapel on the rocks, Painting, Oil on Canvas

2018

About the Item

Nearly 40 years had passed since my childhood excursion to Brittany. Returning in the late August of 2018, I parked the car and walked down between a narrow row of old houses, and my very first glimpse of the ocean was dominated by these interesting rocks, mounted by a small chapel in the small town of Pont-Blanc. In those very seconds a red sailboat passed with picture perfect timing, emblazoned into memory, along with the sounds of the gentle waves, and a man swimming in the clear sea. Nearly every view along the granite coast cried for a painting, but there is physically only so much time, so I sought to capture this scene in an impressionist style, as it called for light and colour. It is painted with the highest quality professional oil paints on a box canvas, wrapped over a frame. Each side of the canvas has been painting as a continuation to the main front facing side, which means it can be hung (and ideally is designed to be) simply as is. The dimensions of the canvas are 40cm x 40cm x 4.5cm (15.7in x 15.7in x 1.8in) :: Painting :: Impressionist :: This piece comes with an official certificate of authenticity signed by the artist :: Ready to Hang: Yes :: Signed: Yes :: Signature Location: Bottom left :: Canvas :: Diagonal :: Original :: Framed: No
