Hunt Slonem
“I believe in repetition like a holy mantra or rosary,” neo-Expressionist painter Hunt Slonem told Introspective, referring to his artistic method. “I am slightly influenced by Pop art, like the repetition of soup cans, postage stamps and celebrities. It’s something I have been doing my whole life.”
Slonem, who often depicts birds, rendered in thick, gestural brushstrokes and arranged in a loose grid, developed his fascination with tropical avian life during a childhood spent in Hawaii and Nicaragua. Today, his 30,000-square-foot studio in Brooklyn contains an aviary, along with a personal garden, a collection of antiques and walls and walls of artworks.
Besides birds, Slonem also paints bunnies — so many that they’ve become a signature. Limned in expressive, urgent strokes on flat, vibrantly colored backgrounds, these creatures fascinate through their subtle variations. “I have painted hundreds of rabbits, but each one is different,” the artist has explained. “Each has its own personality, and it just comes through me.”
The multitalented Slonem also sculpts, makes prints, creates installations and restores historic spaces. His work has achieved cult status among collectors and is represented in the permanent collections of such esteemed institutions as the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Slonem has even made an appearance on Real Housewives of New York.

- Without Heaviness - Close-Up Painting of Two Men Kissing, Original Oil on PanelBy Rick SindtLocated in Chicago, ILUsing pornography as a vehicle for understanding, Rick Sindt's work explores the discovery and development of queer attraction. Sindt transforms pornographic stills, repurposing them into images of intimacy. Rick Sindt Without Heaviness oil on panel 12h x 9w x 1.50d in 30.48h x 22.86w x 3.81d cm RIS040 “This body of work has been crystalizing in my mind for about five years,” says Sindt, “It is the product of reflecting on how the places I learned the most about myself, and my desires, are considered something that sullies a person, something taboo.” Focused on the experiences of gay men, this body of oil paintings depicts moments that range from tender touches to more sexually explicit acts. “It was important to me that I only represent what I know,” explains Sindt, “I identify as a man, and I am attracted to others who identify as men. I don’t believe it is my place to speak on behalf of other members of the queer community whose experiences I am unfamiliar with.” “In creating this work, I spoke with men who told me about how they hid magazines when they were a kid, took out P.O. Boxes in their small hometowns to protect their privacy, and learned how to cover their tracks on the internet. These secretive acts become necessary when the need to understand yourself is great, but your world is bereft of representation." - Desire - Nude Lovers Entangled in a Passionate Kiss, Oil on Paper on CanvasBy Bruno SurdoLocated in Chicago, ILTwo lovers, entangled in each others arms, enjoy a passionate kiss. This intimate moment is the subject of Bruno Surdo's painting entitled "Desire". The beautifully rendered skin tones and a light shinning just beyond our sight give a suppleness and sexiness to the painting. The artist has painted this artwork on paper and then affixed the paper to stretched canvas. This process creates a textural undulating surface echoed in the painting itself. This painting is unframed. Please contact the gallery for framing options. Bruno Surdo Desire oil on paper on canvas 40h x 30w in 101.60h x 76.20w cm BRS086 Bruno A. Surdo b.
