Hunt Slonem
“I believe in repetition like a holy mantra or rosary,” neo-Expressionist painter Hunt Slonem told Introspective, referring to his artistic method. “I am slightly influenced by Pop art, like the repetition of soup cans, postage stamps and celebrities. It’s something I have been doing my whole life.”
Slonem, who often depicts birds, rendered in thick, gestural brushstrokes and arranged in a loose grid, developed his fascination with tropical avian life during a childhood spent in Hawaii and Nicaragua. Today, his 30,000-square-foot studio in Brooklyn contains an aviary, along with a personal garden, a collection of antiques and walls and walls of artworks.
Besides birds, Slonem also paints bunnies — so many that they’ve become a signature. Limned in expressive, urgent strokes on flat, vibrantly colored backgrounds, these creatures fascinate through their subtle variations. “I have painted hundreds of rabbits, but each one is different,” the artist has explained. “Each has its own personality, and it just comes through me.”
The multitalented Slonem also sculpts, makes prints, creates installations and restores historic spaces. His work has achieved cult status among collectors and is represented in the permanent collections of such esteemed institutions as the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Slonem has even made an appearance on Real Housewives of New York.

- (Hand Study)By Shawn HuckinsLocated in Denver, COThis work is from the exhibition ‘Fool’s Errand,’ 2020, which focuses on our relationships with the past and how it effects our current state of the world and our place in it. Digging deep into what makes a society thrive, in addition to what makes a society collapse, 'Fool’s Errand’ features a collection of paintings challenging the idea of learning from previous mistakes and what happens when those lessons go unfulfilled. Using Roman sculpture as a preemptive warning of a failed society and disembodied hands as a metaphor of current day manipulations of the past, Huckins recreates iconic 18th century...Category

- Ending Light on the Lake - Serene Landscape, Expansive Cloudy Sky with Calm LakeBy Ahzad BogosianLocated in Chicago, IL"Ending Light on the Lake" is a minimalist landscape painting depicting subtle shifts of color in a cloud covered sky. The clouds take on hues of blue, pink and grey with a softness that only comes with the setting sun. The still water reflects the beautiful sky. The overall peacefulness of the scene is enhanced by the soft palette of colors. This painting is framed in a simple wooden frame measuring 31 x 49 inches. - Let Her Go - Thickly Painted Impasto Surface Oil Painting with Dream-Like SceneBy Victor WangLocated in Chicago, ILVictor Wang's highly textured paintings involve thick layers of paint over collaged images from the Tang Dynasty. In "Let Her Go", the foreground shows a modern female figure sitting upon the side of a boat which gives the impression she is wearing wings and about to take flight. Upon closer look, there are various scenes taking place around her in the water - warriors with knives drawn, a jeep in pursuit of some unseen enemy, a cauldron boiling over. Influence by the Renaissance Masters, Titian and Rembrandt for their glazing and layering techniques respectively, the artist builds the surface using heavy paint, swirling and mixing the color on the canvas. The end result is a poetic and emotionally powerful representation of the human form. Victor Wang Let Her Go oil on canvas 48h x 60w in 121.92h x 152.40w cm VWG011 My path through life has been adventurous, exciting, and dream-like. My experience of settling into America in search of better opportunities has been both challenging and inspiring. I use the human face as a vehicle to paint human experiences - worry and wonder, sadness and pleasure - which reflect the emotional stage directly tied to my immigration experiences. I grew up amongst the sunflower fields in northern China. In my childhood years, I played under the bright, yellow sunflowers with my brothers everyday. China’s Cultural Revolution played an important part in my life. During that time, sunflowers were used as political allegories to depict how citizens of China should follow Mao who represented the sun, since sunflowers follow the sun’s movements. People eventually inferred the deception that this symbol masked. After graduating from high school, I was sent to a labor camp in the country for ‘reeducation’ during China’s Cultural Revolution. There, I was subject to grueling farm work. Often, I worked in corn and sunflower fields from sunrise to sunset. Thus, for me, sunflowers evoke both personal joy and sadness. Therefore, to deliver my complex feelings, I use sunflowers as a metaphor to connote my background and emotional stage. My incorporation of collages of figures from China’s Tang Dynasty represents my Chinese heritage and is a constant reminder of where I came from. The texture and earthiness on the canvas’s surface are inspired by the texture of the soil on the farm where I worked in China. Although I often gain great pleasure from the process of painting, it is most important to unfold expressively those feelings within myself. Wang belongs to a generation of immigrant painters from China, whose artistic background was defined by socialist realism but took advantage of their skills and broke away from that tradition to create new subjects in the U.S. “When I was a student during Cultural Revolution, Soviet realism art was among the dominant source of influence and it grabbed us like lightening...Category

Berlin is renowned for his use of colour, pigments and texture but this piece is truly exceptional. Sumptuous in detail and material it glows and shimmers, changing nuances with changing light. When we first saw it, it generated an outpouring of genuine emotion, only great artists can cause such an effect. "A golden mind stoops not to shows of dross; I'll then not give nor hazard aught for lead. What says the silver with her virgin hue?" says Shakespeares Prince of Morocco in The Merchant of Venice...Category
