Notable as a Federal Arts Project artist during the Great Depression of the 1930s, Jules Halfant was part of the mural and easel division of the New York Works Progress Administration (WPA). While in the WPA, he worked alongside such well-known artists as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Milton Avery and Stuart Davis. Halfant studied at the National Academy of Design from 1924-1927.
