I utilize textile cutouts that have been previously sewn and/or painted. I allow threads and frayed edges to act as ‘painterly’ gestures within a loose grid of contrasting shapes that jostle for position across the canvas. I enjoy the tensions where shapes meet and create negative space or where color overlaps and interacts.” Washington's modernist approach to Cubist-inspired artworks has gained international recognition for asymmetrical geometric elements that combine to form a complex, layered composition. Her artworks have been exhibited and collected internationally, including in New York, Los Angeles, and Shanghai.
